“When a character dares to date more than one person at the same time, she will run into someone she’s dating while on a date with someone else. The two men will strike up a conversation and become friendly.”

Thanks to the special effects team from Shark Night 3D for Dick Clark.

What the whaaaaaaaaat

What the whaaaaaaaaat

For anyone who wondered what Outsourced would be like if it were all white people…NBC presents Free Agents.

That is to say, I have a new show to make grilled cheese sandwiches during.

I lost interest when everyone in the board room started laughing at Hank Azaria’s only mildly amusing quips. Only How I Met Your Mother can pull that off, people.

My mom: Have you heard about this show, Up All Night?

Me: Well, it was created by Emily Spivey, a former staff writer on Parks and Recreation, and Christina Applegate and Wil Arnett are underrated comedy juggernauts. But it was recently retooled to give Maya Rudolph a more substantial role and add Nick Cannon, so the pilot might not be as solid as it could be. And such a high-concept idea based on the presence of a baby might not have a lot of staying power.

My mom: I meant something more along the lines of, is it good?

The theme song is pretty rockin’, and Wil Arnett is killing it non-GOB-style in the first 8 minutes. I’ve got high hopes. And yes, I know I was going to do the 30 days of TV thing, but - cue the peanut gallery - “I GOT DISTRACTED AND FORGOT!”

So, hopefully at least one of those bad boys should be popping up any day now.

I’ve owned this blog space for almost a year now, and have yet to write anything. Sure, there were 12 or 13 drafts, and one sad little review of the “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” pilot (now deleted.) To be honest, I haven’t written anything of substance since I graduated from college in 2009, so pulling myself out of the doldrums has been daunting. Even at my peak, I was never able to pull out the verbose criticisms of a Sepinwall or a VanDerWerff when monosyllables were more efficient and just as effective for Facebook status updates and conversations with my friends.

In an effort to start writing again, though, and perhaps even get into grad school, I need to make this blog a thing, for realzies, as normal people my age apparently say. Ergo, I’ve whipped up the following one-word reviews for NBC’s Thursday night comedies.

Community, “Critical Film Studies. “: Disappointertaining.

Perfect Couples*, “Perfect Lies.” : Amusiocre.

The Office, “The Garage Sale.” : Tears!!!

Parks and Recreation, “Camping.” : Poehleriffic.

30 Rock, “Plan B.” : Sorktacular.

Outsourced, “Gupta’s Hits and Manmeet’s Missus” (ugh, I can’t believe I actually typed that.) : ImadeagrilledcheesesandwichwiththisplayinginthebackgroundsoIdon’treally knowwhathappened-sational.

*I have plans to write a regular feature called “Too Good To Live?” with Perfect Couples as the first subject. It’s funny how much more I enjoy shows once they’ve been canceled, and “Perfect Couples” is no exception, even if Olivia Munn *is* a featured player. So stay tuned for that. Hopefully, now that I’ve said on the Internet that I’ll write this, I actually will. Cheers, and stay tuned.
